Darla Meek — Past President

Darla Meek serves as Lecturer in Music Education at Texas A & M University-Commerce, teaching undergraduate and graduate music classes and supervising student teachers.  Ms Meek came to TAMUC after teaching music and movement in elementary schools for fifteen years.

She earned a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Dallas Baptist University, and a Master’s of Music at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She earned her Orff Schulwerk certification and Master Class level at SMU, and apprenticed in Basic Pedagogy at University of Saint Thomas in Minnesota.  Darla is certified as a national teacher trainer by the American Orff Schulwerk Association to teach both pedagogy and movement for Orff Levels courses.

Darla has written three children’s choir curricula for Lifeway Christian Resources in Nashville, and often presents sessions for teachers at conferences and workshops at the district, state, and national level.  She is the immediate past-president of the North Texas Chapter of the AOSA.

Ms Meek is an active member in several professional organizations, including MENC, TMEA, OAKE, TCDA, KET, and AOSA.  She is married to music educator Keith Meek and has two children, Gregory (17) and Aubrey (16).
